Sometimes, There’s No Place Like Home

Over the years, I have taken photos of families in many amazing locations.  We’re fortunate to live in an area that delivers gorgeous lake views and sunsets on a regular basis.  Downtown Mooresville and the other “mill towns” around us have a wide range of textures & architecture that can fit any style desired. That’s why Hollywood likes to use Mooresville for TV & movies).  Charlotte is only a short drive and ranges from cityscape to trendy NoDa and the South End.  And then there are the long-distance shoots – mountains, islands, ocean. My cameras have gone to some incredible places!  But something I realized over the last few months is that sometimes, the best photo shoot location is your own home.

I’ve got an idea!

We weren’t too many families into The Front Steps Project when I said, “if we can get shots like these in 5 minutes on people’s front steps, imagine what we could do in a real shoot at home?”  For all those Front Steps photos, we used 1 camera, 1 lens and 1 off-camera flash.  We were at the mercy of the position of the sun and the fixed location of the front steps.  But we managed to get great shots. 

And then the realization hit.  There are some great advantages to shooting at home.  People are most relaxed and comfortable at their own house.  We all spend a lot of time making our homes look & feel like us – from landscaping to decorating – so it’s a perfect setting.  There’s a lot of variety – just by walking around the yard.  These days, we are all much more inwardly focused on our homes, families and network of close friends.  It’s a lot easier to include pets.  And even family members who aren’t in love with the idea of a “big” photo shoot are more comfortable popping outside for a quick session.

House Calls

So, I took all of that and created a new package – House Calls.  We bring the shoot to you.  Your home becomes the setting; you don’t have to go anywhere.  We bring all of our gear and set up in multiple locations around your yard to get a lot of variety.  In between shots, people can retreat to the air conditioning or shade.  And for those that don’t want to be part of a “big” shoot, we can do it fast – 15 minutes, if you’d like.

Already, families have taken advantage of House Calls for everything from family reunions to graduations to weekend lake parties.  And I have dozens of shoots booked through the end of the year to capture more family get-togethers and holidays.

Right now, you can take advantage of everyone still being home (or at least local). Whether it’s online or back to the campus, school is about to begin again.  The lake has a lot more incredible days & sunsets yet to come this summer.  Fall always provides for some incredible views.  And then we roll into Halloween, Thanksgiving and the end of year holidays!
