Summer Has Begun!
For a lot of people, the official start of summer is the last day of school… or Memorial Day… or 4th of July. But over the last dozen years, for me it has been photo day for the neighborhood swim teams. The kids are out of school. Summer vacation is just beginning. Everyone is relaxed.
This year is even more special, though. Last year, swim teams didn’t happen (thanks, Covid). So, for me, it has been 2 years since I have seen some of these swimmers. After taking their pictures every year for the last dozen or so years, I feel like I know them… and I look forward to seeing how much they have changed since I saw them last. Over the years, I’ve watched them grow up. I’ve seen many them move into high school sports, or MAC. I’ve seen some of them come back to be coaches for the program they used to swim in. I’ve done senior portraits for dozens of them. I’ve even been to some of their weddings!
It’s also special because over the last couple of years, I have invested a tremendous amount into my sports photography… classes, equipment, and back-end systems. I had it all ready for swim last year… but Covid had other ideas. So, this year, I get to bring all the cool new toys to the pool and finally deliver a whole new level of sports photography and products to the neighborhood swim teams around me. No more paper forms. No more paying up-front for photos you’ve never seen. Everything is provided to the parents through a robust online system. Edited photos are published online quickly after the shoot – and parents are notified by text message as soon as the photos go live. Products are shipped directly to each parent’s home. And they get there fast!… they go into production the moment each order is placed online and arrive a couple of days later.
So today was the official start of summer for me – summer swim teams have begun. I was at the Winslow Bay pool at 8:00 AM ready to roll! Next up, Cherry Grove, Morrison Plantation, The Point and The Farms!
