Medical staff at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center donates $10,000 to FeedNC through The Front Steps Project.

$10,000 donation to FeedNC

Mooresville, NC – May 12, 2020

The last few months have certainly brought challenges which none of us could have ever imagined. But, it's also provided an opportunity to reflect on the things that are truly important. Our loved ones, our community, helping others, raising spirits, working together, uniting in a common good...

So, when Kathleen and Ed Martin heard about The Front Steps Project, they knew they wanted to volunteer and try to make a difference right here in their own community throughout Charlotte. Kathleen is the owner of LKN Images, a photography business based in Mooresville, NC and founded in 2005 that specializes in high school senior photography, family portraits, as well as team and individual sports photography.

The Front Steps Project has become an international movement of professional photographers who have volunteered their time and expertise to raise donations and awareness for local charities. It was started March 17 in Needham, MA by Cara Soulia and Kristen Collins. Their concept was simple and brilliant: capture professional photos of families on their front steps during the quarantine, give those families a free digital photo, post them on social media using the hashtag #TheFrontStepsProject, and ask the families to donate to a local charity. Cara & Kristen were picked up by local Boston media and then national media.

Kathleen and Ed saw the story and began their local version of The Front Steps Project on March 25. Over 1,000 families signed up for the project at LKNlmages.com (https://www.lknimages.com). They have already taken photos of more than 700 families, all the while far exceeding the social distancing requirements under NC law, remaining more than 20 feet away from all participants. As of May 11, they have raised over $36,000 in donations for FeedNC (https://www.feednc.org), a local non-profit in Mooresville that provides meals and a food pantry for those in-need. This ranks Kathleen & Ed as the second largest in donations worldwide for The Front Steps Project - surpassed only by the founders in Needham.

On Tuesday, May 12 at 2:00 PM, the Medical Staff of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center will be participating in The Front Steps Project by inviting all of the staff outside for a photo where a donation of $10,000 will be made in support of Kathleen & Ed's project and FeedNC. This will be the largest single donation anywhere in the world for The Front Steps Project. The executive staff from FeedNC will be in attendance, and Kathleen and Ed will be taking photos on the front steps of the Medical Center.

We would like to thank the community for the incredible support and encourage everyone to con tribute to The Front Steps Project by visiting FeedNC.org or LKNlmages.com.
